Throughout this period, those affected were unable to trade or even communicate with their colleagues at other sites.
This was not the first time the area had been affected in this way. In April 2015, an electrical fire left numerous businesses still experiencing connection problems more than a week later, with providers' own engineers unable to access the affected areas until the blaze had been contained.
At a time when even the smallest instances of downtime can have serious operational, financial, and reputational consequences, it is essential that business have contingency plans in place to restore their connectivity in the event of 'acts of God' like this. - Redundant hardware, so individual component failures cannot take services offline
